WELCOME TO THE

Life & Money Course

Imagine having your finances in order. You're free of financial clutter. You have a clear vision and plan for setting and achieving financial goals.

  • You're no longer anxious about opening statements because you understand them.
  • You have a plan for saving and spending that gives you peace of mind.
  • You have a clear vision of your financial future and you're excited about it.

Guess what...

It's not you. The reason money is so challenging is that no one taught you how to manage it. I was the same way. I had a job early, gave my brother an allowance, bought everything I wanted and never saved a penny…

Then my mom stepped in. She told me that I’d have to pay rent. She took $100 every month when I was in High School. Even though she was a single mom, working full time and in school she secretly saved my money. A few months later, she showed me my savings account balance. She'd saved $1000 rather than using it for expenses. She explained what she had done and turned the savings account over to me with the agreement that I'd continue to save and I haven’t stopped saving since.

How it Works

Sheila Jacobs

After my parent’s divorce, finances were a challenge. My mother worked and went to school full time. We were fortunate, she was able to purchase a modest home but things were very tight. I started working at age 14, and started spending a day later. I gave my brother an allowance, bought a car that barely ran and made a series of other really horrific decisions. Then my mom started charging me rent. I was livid…I was a teenager living at home paying rent to my mom. A few months passed and one day my mother showed me a bank statement with $1000.00. She’d been saving my money and I felt rich!  BTW, I probably should apologize for being a brat (and a number of other things). It hasn’t always been easy and I’ve had my share of setbacks but I started saving right then and I’ve never stopped.

A few years ago my best friend and I were chatting and she said, "Sheila–do you remember when we got our driver’s licenses and we’d ride around the fancy neighborhoods looking at all the fancy houses and we wondered–who are these people–who can afford those houses?" Now you’re those people.

The struggle has definitely been real but as usual, my friend was right. I’m one of "those people." I'm extremely grateful for what I've been able to achieve and I want you to be one of "those people" too!
